This breed is one of the fastest spaniels. Harmless to house held pets, the dog is sociable, thrives when in family. They love to play and swim, suffer boredom when left alone.

High energetic English Springer Spaniels are medium sized averagely build breed. A compact combination of power and stamina to cope up on field applications, the dog can stand along the hunter in harsh environments for very long durations tirelessly. Medium length coat has long feathering on legs, wagging tail is said to be the indication of friendship, faith and loyalty. The demands of growth and grooming of this breed for show ring dogs and work dogs are totally different, sometimes it seems two different breeds. While choosing English Springer Spaniel, one should bear in mind that a dog developed for show rings would not enjoy freedom of running, hunting and chasing stamina, whereas a puppy from field life would never be appreciated in dog shows.

The English Springer Spaniel is a breed of English origin, traditionally a gun dog, flushing bird into air for hunters and retrieve hunted birds. The dog is excitable, sociable and affectionate from its early age, believed to be descended from Norfolk or Shrophire Spaniels dates back about mid of 19th century. A number of medical and clinical issues are reported as health problems. This breed was distinguished in 1902 by English Kennel Club, whereas registered with AKC in 1910 as medium sized terrier g=The extended sensitivity of this dog stamped them for a sniffer dog application to government departments including anti-narcotics, police and military use. At present this breed is famous as hunting companion and a family pet.

Temperament

A great degree of similarity is observed in two English spaniels i.e. Cocker Spaniel and Springer Spaniel. English Springer Spaniel is said to be the small size spaniel as compared to other contemporaries. They are even-tempered, affectionate, and cheerful companion of the children, willing to be applied on task, eager to be touched by family. This breed is sincere to everyone, happy in training, responsive and eager to learn new things, accepts challenges. Being intelligent enough, sometimes tend to decide their own yet obedient at fields, this dog acts exactly in accordance with direction of master.

Dominating trait would tempt them to take over all authoritative control of house hold pets, they would manage when grown together. While in watchdog application, they have not proved prefect guards however, they can be training as watchdog and guard dogs. They even can bite if irritated by weak or rude handling.

Harsh and repetitive training sessions are not appreciated by this breed. Committed training schedule should be acted upon with patience. 

Introduce diversity in planned activities to avoid repetitions. Award the dog some packages or treats on positive learning indications. Wait for readiness from dog to commence any activity.

Owner Should Know

  1. Although healthy, the English Springer Spaniels are prone to hip dysplasia.
  2. They gain weight when overfed, always monitor for their food intake.
  3. The English Springer Spaniels can be adapted in apartment livings, they can adapt town or city life.
  4. Daily long walks, jogging trips and extra works are some business which is to be included in daily routine life.
  5. Minimal grooming activities are required for this breed, a regular but committed brushing twice a week is more than enough.
  6. Seek for reputed and trusted breeders or suppliers to get healthy puppies, ensure puppies are clinically checked and are disease free.
