Tibetan Terrier The Terrier Dog, as name is evident, belongs to Tibetan mountains and said to be the oldest breed. The breed is not originally a terrier, it has played vital role in generation of some other Tibetan breeds like Lhasa Apso, Shih Tzu and Tibetan Spaniel. Monks had used this dog as watchdog in lamaseries about 2000 years ago. Dalai Lama presented two puppies of this sacred breed to Dr. A.R.H Greig, an English women working in India, in recognition of her services in Tibetan area. Through India, these dogs were brought to England by Dr. Greig, initially these dogs were recognized as Lhasa Terriers, however in 1930 Indian Kennel Club changed its name as Tibetan Terriers and standard was established. The breed was introduced to USA in 1956 and recognized by AKC in 1973. The breed is natural watchdog but enjoys the agility of applications including companion and competitive obedience.
The Tibetan Terrier is rightly build to suit its agility. Healthy, boney and substantial square-proportioned built embraces power, stamina and bravery. Soft and wooly undercoat of this medium-sized dog is covered by a fine, long and riotous outer coat, protecting it from severe climatic and environmental conditions. Front of the skull is surrounded by long hairs extending from face through eyes, ears and upper portion. Eyes are dark brown and large.
