The Majestic Great Dane comes with a soft temperament; due to their huge size it is well suited for family having older children. Sometimes described as king of dogs and also taking the pleasure to be a Gentle Giant. It is very polite toward children and behaves well with other dogs and pets in the house. It can be trained to achieve good social attitudes. It is good in strength and sensing qualities, further it has dutiful feeling towards its owner and remains a family bonded pet.

A firm and proudly way of walk of this breed differentiate them from other dogs. Well size in combination with healthy structure makes it a perfect companion of the family indoors and outfields as well. Well balanced body and mind capability enhances the grace and style of this breed. Great Dane is famous for his dashing appearance and royal carriage.

The Great Dane is known to be a very old family of dog, previously it was known as “Apollo of all dogs”. Around 3000 B.C, some paintings on Egyptian monuments bear similarity to this breed. In 36 B.C, the dogs looking similar to Great Dane were also seen in Greek Capital. Old literature of China does also have the evidences of this breed during 1121 B.C. Powerful dogs looking like Great Dane were brought to Germany, Italy and Spain by the Asian occupants in 407 A.D. They were admired as the bear or hog of the wild. These dogs seemed to be the combination of wolfhounds and Mastiffs-dog of old English. Transition through Greyhound through selective breeding developed the present Great Dane. Initially these dogs were used as hunter dogs and some application as Royal Estate guard dogs. In 1887, the Great Dane was appreciated and recognized worldwide. Sensing, tracking, watchdog and carting carriage are some of the abilities of this breed.

Temperament

The Great Dane is a very poised state, soft and gentle caretaker dog. It extends the loyalty and trustworthiness towards the family to its extreme. It protects the children and behaves very polite, however, its large size may cause unwanted happenings while jumping and playing with young kids. This factor is to be avoided by improved training and telling the dog not to jump over the children. Male Great Dane, if not well socialized will behave violently with other dogs, therefore, it is suggested to be spayed in early days and should be kept with other male dogs during its puppy days training. Same goes with other pets like cats and other animals as pet. These dogs should be introduced in its early growing days to familiarize them.

Although, Great Dane are fairly active in family and get involved in household routines, however, they participate in playful activities at their adult age. They are somewhat aloof and stand-aside to strangers.
