The breed of 1700s, the American Foxhound the Hound Dog was originated in Virginia and Maryland, possibly descended from English Hounds brought to USA in 1650. George Washington played an important role in development of this breed and had referenced the hounds in his journals. The dog was gifted to George Washington by Lafayette a French soldier. This breed was enhanced by contribution from the Walker, Trigg and Goodman melodies of foxhounds. The dog has French and English influence and had proven as efficient, untiring and fearless hunter of wild animals. The breed is exceptional in sensing the scents while extraordinarily fast chaser. They hold great stamina and strength. Some of its talents are hunting, tacking, trailing and agility. This dog is amongst the early registered breeds; they were recognized by AKC in 1886 and were placed in hounds group. The breed is found very rare even in its areas of origin. This breed is faster in running but slow in learning as compared to English Foxhounds.
