Strong muscled and large-boned breed of working dog Cane Corso is moderate in trainability, caring and affectionate to owner and family children, manageable with other dogs at home but after valid socialization. They tend unfriendly to cats, curious to strangers and aggressive to strange dogs. This breed is calm and quiet indoors, relatively less playful. They shed minimal and need low grooming so occasional brushing considered enough. Athlete Cane Corso needs extensive exercise for its mental and physical stimulation.

Majestic look Cane Corso is a muscular dog with massive build. The look is furious rather dreadful to warn intruder without any action by dog. Cane Cosro can spring into action with astonishing speeds to pin culprits. This is a versatile breed domesticate able to a variety of applications starting from hunting, guardian, watchdog , general working dog besides trustworthy companion. Its short coat is coarser; some could be near to smooth while dense to offer resistance to water and other climatic severe effects. Favourite color is Black to achieve formidable expression.

An ancient hunter and property watchdog of Italian origin Cane Corso is massive breed. Canis Pugnz (Roman Molossian) dog is believed to be the forefather of this breed. Light-weighted Cane Corsos were used to hunt large wild animals besides auxiliary warriors in battle fields. The breed was found rarely and was known to southern Italy only till 1988. The paint galleries of Italy have a much fuller history of this dog. Italian native farmers had used these large dogs as passionate companions and guardian to their cattle, farms, homes and other properties, some also used as herding, cattle driving and cart pulling. The breed name is adopted after a Latin word “Cohors” meaning “a guardian” or protective. This breed was introduced to USA quite late, AKC recognized this breed as a miscellaneous working dog in 2008.

Temperament

Quiet and calm giant Cane Corso Italiano is an intelligent, sociable breed of dog, even-tempered, active minded and loyal to the owner. The dog holds great concern towards its family, amiable, caring and gentle to children, affordable to already socialized dogs but aggressive to strangers, they make an efficient watchdog and guard. Unshakable determination, stable temperaments, docile and daring posture are its distinguished features which score its importance. They are classical protector of home, family, cattle, flocks properties and all concerns of owner.

This dominating breed was not developed to fight, even than able to stand against wild animals or other aggressive dogs when any associated threat is felt.

They do not accept dominance from other canine, they need experienced owner able to exercise authoritative control over home, otherwise Cane Corso would control instead.

Trainability is moderately tough, patience and commitment along with consistency would bring fruitful result in obedience training. Aggression against dogs and cats is needed to be controlled in early socialization. Extensive but fair exercises are needed to fulfill physical and mental harmony and fitness. Corsos are extremely sensitive of ears and can notice weakest sounds; they rarely wander if left off-leash. They hold great tolerance against pain and would ignore shocks from electric fence.

  2. They enjoy outdoor life yet able to be kept in apartment livings as long as exercise requirement are met.

  5. Being low shedders it would need minimal grooming with occasional brushing, washing and bath.
