Akita Inu is independent, stubborn, tenacious and bold dog. They are demonstrative to their family, very dedicated and good protector of family members. They are suspicion to strangers and can aggressive toward other dogs. They might be domineering. Akita is not the breed for everyone, in right hands they may be a brilliant companion.

Majestic looking dog is not only powerful but overall calm and very even in disposition. Akita is a huge breed, males often weighs over 100 pounds and standing up to 28 inches at the shoulder. Akitainu is best known for it’s almost bear shaped skull and tightly curled tail is emblem of Spitz breeds. The build of Akitainu  is a sign of real job of hunting great games through deep snow and rugged terrain. The double coat of Akita consists of a straight harsh outer coat and dense undercoat. In length outer coat is about 2 inches, standing off from body. This combination gives ample resistance from weather and water also. The gait of this breed is powerful and brisk. A versatile large dog’s breed of spitz family is the AkitaInu. They are able to perform as protector and hunting as well.

They are known as Akita, Akita Inu, the Japanese Akita and the Japanese Deerhound. They were originally used for guarding nobility and royalty in feudal Japan. Akita also tracked and hunted black bear, wild boar and deer also sometimes. They possessed even smaller build than present day Akita dogs. In 1937, the first Akita was brought in United States by Hellen Keller. Akita is a dog of working group of dogs and in 1972 recognized by American Kennel Club.

Temperament

With an intimidating and noble presence Akita is a sturdy dog of spitz family. When akitas well-bred they must thrive on human companionship and be loyal and affectionate to family members and friends also. They are somewhat wary of strangers and can be exceptionally protective and defensive of their family when it is threatened. If socialized well akita can be intelligent, brave, dauntless and adoptable. They are also known as violent toward other dogs. They are commonly known quite dogs that bark only while something reckon them to bark. Many owners state that the Akita makes the people feel calm and relax and are ideal domestic animal to own if go through from strain. In addition, being easy going quite life enchanting pets, Akitas are known also for easy house break and for their cleanliness. Being clean dogs many people described them as “cat like” for their cleanly and odorless appearance.

In training when they are to start house break, there should be many successful accomplishments of the tasks within a few weeks; however, if you have any other dog breed that learn at slower pace may be cause to affect the Akita’s learning ability and pace slowing it down as well. They are also devoted, loyal and patient dog breed which protects children.

Being very gentle with children trusted well and it is famous that mothers in Japan have left their kids alone in care of an Akita. Of course, it is notable that never leave a child alone with an unattended pet.

Owner Should Know

  1. Being an aggressive with other dogs Akita especially prone to same sex aggression.
  2. If you want a healthy pet, never buy a puppy from pet store, puppy mill or an irresponsible breeder. Find a good reputation breeder who tests her breeding dogs for genetic health conditions and good temperaments.
  3. Food aggression is also common in Akitas, so children must be well taught never ever to go close to akita when he is indulging in eating or chewing a bone.
  4. Akita may chase other animals at home.
  5. Akitas shed a lot thereby needs extensive grooming.
  6. Prolonged eye contact is considered a confrontation by Akitas and they may respond violently
  7.  Training the willful Akita is difficult and needs understanding, patience and experience .Positive socialization and consistent, firm training are necessary for Akita. If he’s mishandled or misunderstood, he typically responds by changing into aggressive.
