Akita Inu is independent, stubborn, tenacious and bold dog. They are demonstrative to their family, very dedicated and good protector of family members. They are known as Akita, Akita Inu, the Japanese Akita and the Japanese Deerhound. They were originally used for guarding nobility and royalty in feudal Japan. Akita also tracked and hunted black bear, wild boar and deer also sometimes. They possessed even smaller build than present day Akita dogs. In 1937, the first Akita was brought in United States by Hellen Keller. Akita is a dog of working group of dogs and in 1972 recognized by American Kennel Club.
